ProForm Hybrid Trainer
The ProForm Hybrid Trainer is a cross between an elliptical machine and a recumbent exercise bike which is the main reason why many people like it.
It is meant to provide user options on what kind of program to follow. It can be used as a normal elliptical machine or a seated stationary bike.
It offers great features for something that is in the lower price range as far as elliptical machines are concerned (see our elliptical trainer review section here).
Elliptical machines in general offer a low impact workout for users and ProForm Hybrid Trainer does this by adding more comfort for the user while still providing a great range of workout options.
The recumbent seat’s back support offers a comfortable ride for when the user wants to use the bike option and the large foot pads can be adjusted to accommodate the choice.
Options are available for varying resistance conveniently located in the control pad and it even has a more stable range of motion because of the heavier than normal flywheel.
It means the machine will not be swaying from side to side even when the user is engaged with the heavier resistance.
With the pedals being oversized, provides the user further comfort making sure that their feet will have a comfortable position and will not slip off to the side regardless of foot size.
It even has a bottle holder to make sure you stay hydrated during your workout. A more comfortable ride coupled with an even more comfortable range of motion makes ProForm Hybrid Trainer a really good machine for its price range.
Construction Quality (4/5)
Out of the box, ProForm Hybrid Trainer takes quite a while to construct. Users mentioned it takes about one to two hours to assemble and will need for AA batteries for the computer console.
It is generally solid though once constructed but slowly but surely starts to have squeaking sounds here and there which, for some at least, makes them question if it can really support the 350 lbs. that it is supposed to but the manufacturer does have a “fix it kit” available for such issues.
It is made from light weight material, having a 148 lbs shipping weight, but does have a dependable built for its value.
Technological Features (4/5)
ProForm Hybrid Trainer has a decent stride length of about 15 inches.
Many mentioned that it might be relatively hard for taller people (anybody above 6 feet) to use it because of the short stride length, but ProForm Hybrid Trainer does a great job in making sure that the natural motion of walking and running are properly simulated providing a great workout for user.
It also has a pretty decent list of technological features including a target pacer feature that tells you to adjust your speed for you to achieve your goal for the workout session as well as pre-set workout programs designed by certified personal trainers.
It also allows the user to conveniently change options for resistance and workout programs through the computer console that has a relatively large LCD screen that can be adjusted for either a standing or seated position to make it easier for the user to monitor their progress.
One can even monitor their pulse rate through the built in EKG monitor located at the hand grips that is especially useful for people who are trying to maintain a certain pulse rate while working out.
ProForm Hybrid Trainer uses revolutions per minute (RPM) instead of the usual kilometers or miles per hour standard that other elliptical machines have and that is so far the only downside of ProForm Hybrid Trainer for most users.
The computer console provides feedbacks to the user to monitor their progress such as calories burned, time, distance, resistance and your pulse rate to give the user a general overview of their workout progress.
ProForm Hybrid Trainer also has quite a range of resistance level. It has 14 levels making sure that it is going to be useful from the most novice user to the more advanced fitness enthusiast.
Workout Effectiveness (5/5)
When it comes to workout effectiveness, ProForm Hybrid Trainer does rate quite high because it does provide a wide range of workout options for all users.
It simulates walking and running quite nicely coupled with the resistance settings, anybody can really have a workout session in this machine.
It also allows the user to use the handle bars to assist the legs in working therefore working their midsection as well giving them a more balanced and toned look. Workout-wise, ProForm Hybrid Trainer definitely provides great value for the users.
Size and Storage (4/5)
ProForm Hybrid Trainer in a lot easier to move around because of the transport wheels found at the bottom of the machine. Even though it does not fold, it still has a pretty small footprint and made from light weight materials, can easily be moved from one place to another.
Having relatively small dimensions (69 x 23.25 x 58.75 inches) makes it quite easy to work with even for smaller rooms.
The Exerpeutic 1000 XL is another option in the same price range that offers similar features but is more portable that the Hybrid.
ProForm Hybrid Trainer is around $400.00 and has been getting a lot of great reviews in a number of sites that sell the machine, such as HSN.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, etc. If you are looking at an elliptical in this price range with a bit more features you should check out the Schwinn A40.
It has been getting 4 out of 5 stars and even higher for other sites showing just how much value it has for its price.
ProForm Hybrid Trainer has 5 years frame warranty and 90 days parts and labor. The parts and labor warranty is quite short for some users but for the most part, people are quite happy with the customer service they receive.
